Lauren & James At The Heads Wedding | Barwon Heads Wedding

March 22, 2026

Lauren and James were married at At The Heads in Barwon Heads, celebrating their day with a relaxed, fun atmosphere and so many personal touches woven throughout.

The day began with a first look at At The Heads, giving them a quiet moment together before everything kicked off. From there, we headed over to The Bluff in Barwon Heads for portraits, taking in the coastal views and creating some really beautiful, natural moments together before returning to the venue.

Back at At The Heads, the energy slowly built as friends gathered, shared a drink, and settled into the day ahead. The ceremony itself was full of personality, heartfelt, a little bit different, and packed with moments that had everyone laughing and fully present.

It was one of those weddings where you could really feel the effort that had gone into every detail, and when the day came together, it all just worked. A genuinely fun, thoughtful celebration surrounded by the people who matter most.

The Beginning

We were best friends for four years before we started dating.

We first met in 2012 when we moved onto the same floor of our university residential accommodation. We spent a lot of time together — accumulating more inside jokes than we can count, going on driving adventures, and regularly sharing dinners.

We later moved into a share house with another friend, adopted a cat (Phillip), and settled into a routine filled with good food, lounge-room blanket forts, late-night drives, and even more inside jokes.

After a first kiss on a weekend camping trip together (along with nearly suffocating in our terrible Kmart tent), things slowly evolved. Eventually, we made it official when we moved into a two-person apartment with Phillip.

The Proposal

We got engaged in September 2024 at Shelley Beach in Kilcunda, during a day trip on the way to Wilson’s Prom.

What Were You Most Looking Forward To?

Getting everyone we love together in one place and hitting the dance floor with them later in the evening.

Also, wowing everyone with our self-choreographed first dance.

Top Tips for Future Couples

Make sure your wedding day authentically represents who you both are. If there’s something you want to do, go for it.

You don’t need to follow a rigid idea of what a wedding “should” look like. Traditions are optional, and the limit is your imagination.

Also, start planning as early as you can — especially if you want specific vendors, custom designs, or DIY elements.
